Project Information Pacific Terminals Australia, Tallow Filtration Plant Remodel, constructed at Pinkenba, QLD |
As part of a regular group of engineering associates, Centaur Mechanical Design was asked to provide design & detail draughting for a complete remodel of a plant which filtered used tallow for further use as an ingredient in other products. The client had obtained two new vertical screen element filters to replace the existing horizontal unit. Some auxiliary plant equipment & shutdown installation planning was required. |
We designed and detailed a multi-level skid unit in which to mount and transport the filters. As much piping and electrical instrumentation services as possible were designed to be installed on the skid in the workshop and transported to site as one unit. Final installation of the skid was achieved by lifting the unit to fit the lower legs and then carefully craning the entire filter skid unit through the front of the existing building which had been partly cleared for that purpose. |
Six piping design layouts were produced on our add-on CAD piping orthographic package. A further 50 piping isometric details were produced on our add-on CAD piping isometric package with the main focus being the fairly complicated operator control manifold. As well as standard symbology, our piping package uses specification and materials data bases to provide consistent Bill of Materials on each drawing and electronic BOM output. All of our drawings were fully checked, as this is an important part of maintaining our quality standard. |
Auxiliary equipment included a vendor supplied bulk-a-bag discharger, an ingredient tipping hopper and platform, a revised dust collection system, provision of new and existing pumps. We also provided design and details of additional support and access steelwork and a monorail for the maintenance of the filter screens. |
We enjoyed this project immensely because it enabled us to display the full diversity of our talents. We had to produce design and detail drawings for all facets of this project. This included P&ID diagrams, General Arrangements, Mechanical and Piping Design Layouts, Piping Isometrics, Steelwork Design Layouts and Fabrication Details, Hopper and Vessel Design and Details and Exhaust Ducting Details. |
This successful project utilised a good deal of ingenuity and teamwork to reach a very satisfactory conclusion in a difficult location. We hope that we can offer the experience gained on this project to our future clients. |
